Loss of House Seats Means Incumbents May Face Off

Ten states will lose congressional seats in 2012. That means some House members may face their own colleagues in primaries, The Hill reports. The battles could be pitched and include possible tussles between Democratic Reps. Dennis Kucinich and Betty Sutton in Ohio; Democratic Reps. Brian Higgins and Louise Slaughter in New York; and Republican Reps. Charles Boustany Jr. and Jeff Landry in Louisiana.

 

“There are so many permutations that you just can’t predict it right now,” Kucinich tells The Hill.

 

“Running against a colleague isn’t in my thinking right now, but I intend to remain in Congress,” Kucinich adds.

 

Incumbents who end up running against each other would be flying solo on fundraising, however.

 

Both the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee likely would stay away from those contests.
