The Cook Political Report on Wednesday shifted House races in 11 states toward Democrats, reports The Hill.
Just one race shifted favorably for Republicans — Illinois Rep. Cheri Bustos’ reelection bid has moved from a likely Democrat win to just leaning that way. Five Democrat-controlled seats, five Republican-controlled seats, and the Michigan seat held by Libertarian Rep. Justin Amash have all shifted to likely wins for Democrats.
“District-level polls are full of danger signs for Trump,” David Wasserman, the House editor for the Cook Political Report, wrote in the analysis. “The resulting drag may be too much for down-ballot Republicans to overcome.”
Democrats currently hold 232 seats in the House, compared to 197 held by Republicans. There are five vacancies and one Libertarian.
The House races that moved from “lean Democrat” to “likely Democrat” are Minnesota’s 2nd District and Georgia’s 6th District. In Minnesota’s 1st District, Michigan’s 3rd District, and Illinois’ 13th District, the races have shifted from “lean Republican” to “toss-up.”
Florida’s 26th District and Virginia’s 2nd District have moved from “toss-up” to “lean Democrat” and California’s 50th District, North Carolina’s 9th District, and Washington’s 3rd District shifted from “likely Republican” to “lean Republican.”
In Kansas’ 3rd District, the race has shifted from “likely Democrat” to “solid Democrat.”
