A law firm representing President Donald Trump’s former communications director Hope Hicks was paid more than $450,000 by the Republican National Committee in April, according to Politico.
Politico attributed its information to public disclosures filed by the RNC to the Federal Election Commission.
Attorney Robert Trout of the firm Trout Cacheris & Janis was retained by Hicks in connection to the special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, according to the website. The Washington Post reported three lawyers at the firm represent people in addition to Hicks, as a result of Mueller’s probe and the investigations of the House and Senate intelligence committees.
The new disclosure statement by the RNC makes no mention of Hicks, Politico said. The filing shows the law firm was paid $275,534.09 on April 18. The following day it was paid $176,245.87. The payments were marked as “legal and compliance serves," the website noted.
The RNC has acknowledged paying legal fees for Trump and others involved in the Russia probe. However, there has never been any acknowledgement of money paid for Hicks.
