Donald Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks
unveiled to Politico the GOP nominee's plan to attack Hillary Clinton over the Whitewater scandal from the late 1970s.
Hicks inadvertently emailed a reporter for Politico, who shares the same last name as a colleague of Hicks'.
It all began when Trump campaign adviser, Michael Caputo, emailed a researcher at the RNC, asking him to "work up information on HRC/Whitewater as soon as possible. This is for immediate use and for the afternoon talking points process," Politico reported.
Caputo copied Hicks on the email. The email then ended up in Politico's hands when Hicks replied instead to Marc Caputo, a Politico reporter who is not related to the Republican consultant.
The Whitewater (Development Corporation) real-estate scandal centered on Bill Clinton using his influence as governor of Arkansas to secure a fraudulent $300,000 loan to the Clintons' partners in the riverfront land investment.
In the aftermath, the Clintons were investigated for lying and obstruction, and paying off former partners and friends to buy their silence, among other indiscretions.
