Two top staffers in the Donald Trump campaign were spotted in a yelling match on a New York street Wednesday night,
the New York Post's Page Six reports.
Hope Hicks, Trump's spokeswoman, and Corey Lewandowski, his campaign manager, were seen loudly arguing about the announcement Thursday that
Paul Manafort would be named Trump's campaign chairman.
"Hope was screaming at Corey, 'I am done with you!'" one witness said. "It was ugly, she was doubled over with her fists clenched. He was stood there looking shocked with his hands on his head."
"It was a campaign-related disagreement," another witness told Page Six. "They were arguing how the announcement about Manafort taking more responsibility would be handled. There is an internal struggle to define what Corey's role would be."
"It was a continuation of a discussion about when the announcement would go out," another witness said. "Corey wanted to wait until Thursday to give him a chance to talk to certain people first. Hicks was under pressure by others to make the announcement sooner."
There has been tension between the Lewandowski and Manafort camps ever since Manafort was brought in to the campaign in March. Manafort, a longtime Washington operative, initially was seen as having a higher position than Lewandowski, who had headed up Trump's campaign from the early days. Trump reportedly stopped listening to Manafort's advice to be more presidential.
