Hillary Clinton is looking forward to receiving the endorsement of President Barack Obama, according to Kristina Schake, Clinton's deputy communications director, Politico reports.

"We really hope to get an endorsement soon,"Schake said during an appearance on CNN's "New Day."

Schake pointed out that Clinton aims to continue many of Obama's policies.

"An endorsement from President Obama would be very, very meaningful to Hillary as she was so proud to serve in his administration, considers him a friend and is really running for president to protect his legacy and build on the progress that he's made for the country," Schake said.

Critics of Clinton say that Obama could be more popular than Clinton on the campaign trail, according to The New York Times.

"There's a high risk there of her getting overshadowed," Ed Rollins, who runs a pro-Trump super PAC, said in the Times report.

Obama is said to be anxious to hit the campaign trail to support Clinton.

"He has indicated that he wants to spend a lot of time on the campaign trail,"Jennifer Psaki, Obama's communications director, said in the Times.

The president wants to be more actively involved in the presidential race, according to sources, CNN reports.
