One of the key battleground races for the Republicans' hopes to keep control of the House involves incumbent Rep. Bruce Poliquin, R-Maine, who is now trailing Democrat Jared Golden by 1 point (47-46 percent) in the latest Emerson College poll.
Just 4 percent remain undecided, and turnout in Maine's 2nd District is going to be the deciding factor in the midterm election's final week. It has been a district that flipped from being 8.6 points in favor of former President Barack Obama to going heavily in President Donald Trump's favor in 2016 (10.3 percent)
The high unfavorability of President Trump might be the reason for Rep. Poliquin's narrow deficit. President Trump is viewed unfavorably by 55 percent and favorably by 41 percent in the poll.
The RealClear Politics analysis shows the race as a "toss up" and a virtual tie in the average of polls.
Interestingly, in a hypothetical ballot for Sen. Susan Collins', R-Maine, seat shows her trumping Obama administration Democrat Susan Rice by 24 points (44-20 percent).
Emerson College polled 883 potential voters between Oct. 27-29 with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
