Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson charged Sunday that
Donald Trump's remarks about a Hispanic federal judge and
illegal immigrants are racist.
In an interview on CNN's
"State of the Union," the former New Mexico governor said he had "real issues" with the GOP presumptive nominee.
"Deporting 11 million undocumented workers, building a fence across the border, killing the families of Muslim terrorists," he said, adding that he's "a neo-nationalist" on trade as well.
"He has said 100 things that would disqualify anyone else from running for president," he added.
"When it comes to Mexican immigration and that he would call immigrants from Mexico murderers and rapists, look, that's just not true," Johnson said. "The stuff he is saying is incendiary."
Pressed on whether the statements amount to racism, Johnson replied "Clearly."
"If you look up the definition of 'racism,' calling a U.S.-born Hispanic a Mexican, and his inability to judge others, I think I am now semi-quoting [House Speaker] Paul Ryan here," he said..
Johnson was referring to Trump's attacks on U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel,
of whom Trump said his "Mexican heritage" prevented him from presiding fairly over lawsuits involving Trump University.
