Sen. Cory Gardner Thursday slammed members of the media for praising Sen. Mitt Romney for his vote and speech about convicting President Donald Trump for abuse of power when in the past, they'd slammed him when they didn't agree with his political stance on many issues.
“The same people who are praising him for his vote are the same people who called him a felonious tax cheat that caused cancer," the Colorado Republican said on Fox News' "Fox and Friends," referring to Romney's press coverage when he was the GOP presidential nominee in 2012. "The press will praise you when you do what you want them to do and attack you viciously when you’re not in line with what they think you should be."
Romney, in an announcement before the Senate's impeachment vote Wednesday, said he would vote to convict Trump on the abuse of power charge, citing his faith in making what he called a difficult decision.
The Utah Republican also conducted interviews with The Atlantic, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and Fox News, with all of the interviews embargoed until after he told the Senate about his decision.
House Democrats, meanwhile, made a push to impeach Trump that the founding fathers and framers of the Constitution would not have supported, as they used politics to "drive an impeachment over policy differences," said Gardner, adding that the House Democrats are a "revenge majority" out to disrupt Trump's presidency.
