Democrat Joe Biden has flipped his fortunes when it comes to donations as he now leads President Donald Trump in the race for the largest campaign war chest less than two weeks before the election.
The Washington Post detailed how Biden went from lagging behind his opponents during the Democratic Party's primary season to surging ahead of Trump as the campaigns fight for donors' dollars.
In July, for example, donors in 36 states were giving Trump the most money. Two months later, however, Biden had flipped things and was getting the most money from 2.2 million donors in 41 states and the District of Columbia.
From Jan. 1 through Oct. 14, Biden's campaign received money from almost 5.9 million people, according to the Post. The Trump campaign took in donations from 3.7 million people during that same stretch.
What's more, Biden is now taking in more money than Trump in 12 battleground states: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin.
A closer look at the data shows that Biden took in more money on several milestone days: the day he announced Sen. Kamala Harris as his running mate, the day following the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and the days of and after the first presidential debate.
In September alone, Biden's campaign raised a record $383 million. That haul topped the previous record that he set in August, $364.5 million.
