President-elect Donald Trump may not have shut the door on a controversial legal option to deal with flag-burning – vowing on Tuesday "we'll see what we're gonna do about that."
At a Fayetteville, N.C., rally billed as part of his post-election "thank-you tour," Trump reiterated his opposition to anyone who burns or desecrates the flag, though he stopped short of suggesting they should be jailed or lose their citizenship, as he tweeted Nov. 29.
"We love our flag, and we don't like it when we see people ripping up our flag and burning our flag," Trump told rally-goers in North Carolina.
"We don't like it. And we'll see what we're gonna do about that, OK? We're gonna see."
Trump's original tweet triggered criticism – and reminders that flag burning is a constitutionally protected form of free speech.
