The Democratic National Committee on Wednesday announced that it had promoted a regional director to its top fundraising post, one that had been vacant for more than three months.
Clayton Cox will now oversee all fundraising effort, the DNC announced. He replaces Emily Mellencamp Smith, who was fired in early November for the organization's laggings fundraising efforts, Politico reported.
"Thanks to Clayton's help, we've been outperforming recent off-year fundraising efforts and turning those resources into wins in Republican strongholds. I'm more than confident in Clayton's leadership and his ability to raise the resources we need to win elections this year, next year, and beyond," DNC Chair Tom Perez said in a statement.
Cox served as the DNC's Midwest, Florida and Georgia finance director during the 2016 cycle.
It's the latest personnel move of the embattled organization, which had just more than $400,000 in cash on hand amid reports that it is "dead broke."
The DNC also announced the promotion of Patrice Taylor to liaison between the organization and its party's officers and leadership.
