Twitter earlier this week suspended a number of accounts for sharing fake messages from Black Lives Matter protestors who said they ditched the Democratic Party for President Donald Trump, reports NBC News.
An account called @WentDemtoRep on Aug. 23 shared a tweet that received more than 37,000 likes and 11,000 shares.
It read: “I’ve been a Democrat my whole life. I joined the BLM protests months ago when they began. They opened my eyes wide! I didn’t realize I became a Marxist. I’m done with this trash. I will be registering Republican. Giving Twitter a shot!”
The person behind the account tagged two other users, @PeterGammo and @KRon619, who made similar statements. Twitter on Tuesday suspended the accounts of the first two and deleted the account of @PeterGammo for spam and “specifically, artificially manipulative behavior.”
Gammo, a Turkish American man from San Diego, was behind the @PeterGammo account.
The fake accounts used the images of Black men for their profile pictures. The profile picture of @WentDemtoRep was stolen from the Instagram page of Nelis Joustra, a model who worked to get the account deleted.
