Democrats are wondering whether Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., would be a viable candidate for president in the 2020 election.
According to The Hill, some in the party are worried that Warren lacks the ability to flip voters in blue-collar states who chose President Donald Trump over Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016.
"I just can't see a blue-collar, Rust Belt guy voting for her," a Democratic strategist with presidential campaign experience told The Hill. "I think the party needs to be realistic about that."
Democratic strategist Basil Smikle said, "Democrats are certainly motivated on issues like [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] separating children and the potential for the Supreme Court to reverse Roe v. Wade, but are independents that upset? They may not like Trump's tactics, but they may, to some extent, like the ultimate outcome if it helps to stem the tide on undocumented workers."
The Democrat Party has one declared major candidate — Rep. John Delaney, D-Md. — and a handful of others who are running, but none of them could be described as likely threats to Trump.
Clinton is reportedly mulling another run at the White House, while former Vice President Joe Biden could also join the fray.
