As crucial primary states headed to the polls in February, reports show the campaign arm for the House Democrats raised $7.1 million that month and outraised the National Republican Congressional Committee by nearly $1 million.
According to
Politico, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee ended the quarter with $37 million cash on hand, but a committee official noted the February fundraising brings the DCCC to a total of $13.5 million for the year.
While $1.7 million of the donations are from individuals who contributed $200 or less, a DCCC aide told Politico that nearly 80 percent of the Democratic Caucus paid dues to the campaign arm this cycle.
Although the National Republican Campaign Committee has $39 million cash on hand, the NRCC fell short of the DCCC by nearly $1 million for the month of February after raising only $6.3 million for the month.
According to Politico, "House Democrats are mounting an aggressive campaign in 2016 to pick up seats that will help the party grow its ranks after languishing deep in the minority."
Politico added, "Strong fundraising from the DCCC could help the party compete swing districts Democrats have identified as top targets in 2016."
