Conor Lamb, the Democrat who jolted Republican-heavy Pennsylvania by winning a special election was sworn into Congress on Thursday evening.
Last month, Lamb bested Republican Rick Saccone by 755 votes in a Pittsburgh-area district that Donald Trump won by almost 20 percentage points in the 2016 presidential race.
Lamb, 33, who will serve out the remaining eight months of former GOP Rep. Tim Murphy's term, was sworn into the House of Representatives by outgoing Speaker Paul Ryan.
"We are all in this together, we need solidarity with each other," Lamb said during his first remarks on the House floor, CNN reported.
The top House Democrat, Nancy Pelosi, is recommending Lamb serve on the Veterans' Affairs Committee and the Science, Space and Technology Committee.
Lamb's win energized Democrats who believe it was an early sign of an upcoming GOP bloodbath in then midterm elections.
