Rep. Conor Lamb said President Donald Trump is repeatedly attacking him as a way to create a diversion from other news impacting the country.
During a Wednesday appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” the Democrat from Pennsylvania said Trump’s tweets about him voting for Nancy Pelosi to serve as Speaker of the House are false.
Lamb set the record straight and said he did not vote for Pelosi.
“No, I voted for my good friend Joe Kennedy," Lamb said. "But that isn't what this is about. I think that's the latest effort to distract from what the real issues are in parts of the country like mine.”
On Tuesday, Trump tweeted that Lamb is an “American fraud” and a “puppet for Crazy Nancy Pelosi.” He made a similar post on Monday.
“He said he would NOT vote for her for Speaker,” Trump said, adding that his tweet was an endorsement of Lamb’s challenger Sean Parnell, who he called an “American hero.”
Parnell and Lamb both served in the military.
Lamb responded to Trump’s attacks in a tweet of his own, commenting, “These people have been lying about my record since the day I became a candidate. It hasn't stopped, and it won't stop, until we beat them at the ballot box in November.”
