Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice does not anticipate major problems if President Donald Trump decides to pull out of the nuclear agreement with Iran.
Her comments came in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday.
"The allies love this deal, and I certainly hope that in their meeting with President Trump that (French President Emmanuel) Macron and (German Chancellor Angela) Merkel talk about ways to improve the deal if we're going to stay in it," Rice said.
"But if we get out of this deal, it's going to be just fine," she said. "The Iranians, I think, will try and stay in because they do want that investment eventually to start flowing. And by the way, the reason the investment isn’t flowing, is that we still have sanctions on Iran because of terrorism. “
But Rice admitted she would not have signed the deal with Iran.
"I don’t think it was a very good deal," she said. "I think we were in a hurry to get a deal and we left a lot on the table."
However, she added: "I actually think if we pull out now it’s not going to be the disaster that everybody is talking about."
The Washington Examiner noted President Trump has until May 12 to decide if he wants to continue with the agreement, make changes or pull out of it.
Meanwhile, Rice also said former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson deserves some credit for getting North Korea to the negotiating table.
Her comments about Tillerson came in a separate interview on Tuesday on "CBS This Morning."
"I actually think former Secretary Tillerson actually deserves a lot of credit for putting together a pretty tough isolation campaign," she said.
