NBC's Chuck Todd shrugged off the insult that President Donald Trump hurled his way over the weekend, saying he doesn't allow his own children to respond in kind.
"I bring my kids up to respect the office of the presidency and the president," Todd, moderator of "Meet the Press," told NBC News4 in Washington on Sunday. "I don't allow them to say anything negative, ever, about the president."
At a campaign rally Saturday in western Pennsylvania in support of Rick Saccone, Trump called Todd "a sleeping son of a bitch."
While several in the media — including conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt — jumped to Todd's defense and decried the president's remark, Todd didn't take the bait, saying only that it's a challenge trying to explain the rhetoric to his children, 14 and 11.
"It creates a challenge to all parents when he uses vulgarities like that," Todd told News4.
