Fresh from his sweeping election to a second term as governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie plans to stump for Republican governors facing re-election, including races in Michigan, Ohio, and Florida.
Christie, new leader of the Republican Governors Association, may need those states if he goes after the GOP presidential nomination in 2016, as many expect him to do.
Christie told The New York Times he will hit the campaign trail next year in "places like Ohio and Michigan and Florida."
The governors in those states are Rick Snyder in Michigan, John Kasich in Ohio, and Rick Scott in Florida. Snyder has not formally announced whether he plans to seek a second term, but is widely expected to do so early next year.
Christie has indicated he will also help Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who faces a primary challenge, the newspaper reported. The Garden State's top lawmaker is a veteran cheerleader for Republican candidates, having campaigned last year for Mitt Romney.
More recently, Christie stumped for U.S. Senate hopeful Steve Lonegan, who lost to Newark Mayor Cory Booker for the seat of the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg.
