Former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page filed a lawsuit against the Democratic National Committee over the unverified Steele dossier that was key for surveillance warrants against him, Fox News is reporting.

Also named in the lawsuit is the law firm Perkins Coie and its partners, according to Fox News. The suit was filed in the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Illinois' Eastern Division Thursday morning.

Page's attorneys described the suit as the "first of multiple actions in the wake of historic" abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

"This is a first step to ensure that the full extent of the FISA abuse that has occurred during the last few years is exposed and remedied," attorney John Pierce said Thursday. "Defendants and those they worked with inside the federal government did not and will not succeed in making America a surveillance state."

The suit alleges that the DNC, Perkins Coie, and partners Marc Elias and Michael Sussman "used false information, misrepresentations, and other misconduct to direct the power of the international intelligence apparatus and the media industry against [Page] to further their political agenda."

The dossier was written by ex-British intelligence officer Christopher Steele.

Page had first filed suit against the parties in October 2018 in Oklahoma. That suit was later dismissed when a judge ruled the court lacked jurisdiction.

Last year, Justice Department inspector general Michael Horowitz said the FBI found many errors and omissions in the bureau's applications to the secret FISA court to obtain warrants to track Page's activities and actions.
