Obama May Have to Give in Big on Budget

As the Obama administration seeks Republican support for raising the debt limit, a consensus is forming on both sides of the aisle in Washington that the White House will have to make major concessions on budget cuts to succeed, Politico reports.

After a Congressional Budget Office report showed that the recent deal on a 2011 budget did little to cut the deficit, Republicans will seek more this time around.

“Politically, at this moment, I don’t see any way that Congress can pass a clean debt-limit bill,” Bill Hoagland, an adviser to former Majority Leader Bill Frist, told Politico.

“There are just too many people who have made too many statements on the Republican side in both the House and Senate.”
