Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., believes a $10-an-hour minimum wage would go a long way in closing what she sees as the ever-widening chasm between the working poor and the wealthy, Politico reports.
“We need to raise the minimum wage. That will make a huge difference…People are struggling,” Boxer said during an interview with Ed Schultz on the Ed Show on Monday.
“The difference between the very wealthy and the working poor has grown.
We raise that minimum wage and we move forward with the vision of this president that we have, which is everyone pays their fair share [of taxes].”
Boxer used the Golden State as an example of the success of her viewpoint.
“There’s one word we always have to focus on and that’s fairness. Everyone has to do their part,” Boxer said.
“I’ve spoken to people in California who earn a lot who were very anxious to help the country and their state.
We’ve proven the point, you know, a rising tide lifts all boats.”
