The president and CEO of Fisher Sand & Gravel Co., one of the four companies that was selected to build border wall prototypes, has anticipated issues of eminent domain, and says the government only needs to issue "access and clearance."
"There are only two things the government really needs to do: they need to get us access and clearance," CEO Tommy Fisher told the Washington Examiner.
"I believe we can construct a fairly soft footprint that stays within 60 feet of the current border that sits there today. One of our machines, if need be, and they don't have the right of way, as long as we can fit our machines in that corridor, I believe we're somewhat comfortable," Fisher told the Examiner.
The CEO said he is confident that his company can earn the trust of property owners and others in rural communities.
"Over my 23 years of running the company, I've probably leased out myself over 100 to 200 places where I use a gentleman's land for gravel and put it back so they can farm it," Fisher told the newspaper.
Fisher also said that private property owners will be in favor of the border wall if it means cutting down on border crossings, dust, and migrants dying on their property, the Examiner reported.
Trump is expected to view the border wall prototypes in San Diego after his State of the Union speech on Jan. 30, Axios reported.
