Bachmann, Perry Pass Romney in GOP Presidential Poll

Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann and Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who is undeclared but considering a presidential run, are basically tied at the top of the GOP pack in a joint poll by DailyCaller.com and ConservativeHome. They top former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who led in the previous poll.

Almost 26 percent tabbed Bachman as the top candidate, while 21.1 percent described her as “most electable.” Perry was the top pick for 25.4 percent, with 28.5 percent saying he would be most likely to be elected.

Romney was the top choice for 12.4 percent, although 33.5 percent named him as most electable.

“Perry and Bachmann have set a new bar for the poll, garnering support in the range of 25 percent in the categories of electability and top pick,” according to the Caller’s report on the poll.

“This suggests that more Republican voters are becoming engaged in the race as they find candidates who actually excite them, as opposed to voting for the best option in a fairly unexciting field.”

The survey was sent to 2,500 self-identified conservative Republicans, many of whom are politically active. More than a third of respondents identified themselves as tea party members.
