President Donald Trump on Monday tweeted his support for Gov. Asa Hutchinson, R-Ark., who is facing a Republican primary challenge Tuesday.
"He has done an incredible job with a focus on lower taxes, border security, and crime prevention," Trump tweeted. "Asa loves our military and our veterans."
Hutchinson is running against Jan Morgan, a former TV journalist famous for establishing her gun range as a "Muslim-free zone."
Hutchinson has a sizeable lead over Morgan, according to a Talk Business & Politics-Hendrix College poll, and the primary is not expected to be competitive. The general election, set for Nov. 6, is projected to pit Democrat Jared Henderson against Hutchinson and the governor leads, according to an April poll.
