Trump administration Labor Secretary Alex Acosta on Wednesday vigorously defended his handling of a 2008 plea deal with wealthy financier Jeffrey Epstein — and the president was pleased with how he handled the heat, CNN reported.
According to the news outlet, two unnamed White House officials said Acosta did well during the two-hour-long news conference — and has retained President Donald Trump's support.
One of the officials told CNN that Acosta likely gave his defenders more information to counter accusations that he was too lenient in the Epstein case.
And another official told CNN that Trump has made clear to his aides that he wants Acosta to keep his job and that he continues to have an affinity for him.
Trump said on Tuesday he’d look into Acosta's role in the Epstein matter.
But in private, Trump has said he has confidence in Acosta, CNN reported, citing unnamed sources familiar with his remarks.
