Rep. Adam Schiff Rips Mueller for Not Digging Into Trump Finances

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., targeted special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation with criticism for not going to the length of looking into President Donald Trump's finances with Deutsche Bank.

"If the special counsel hasn't subpoenaed Deutsche Bank, he can't be doing much of a money-laundering investigation," Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee told NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday.

Schiff fears President Trump or his lawyers might have threatened firing Mueller for going outside the mandate of investigating 2016 election meddling.

"So, that's what concerns me, that that red line has been enforced – whether by the deputy attorney general or by some other party at the Justice Department – but that leaves the country exposed," Rep. Schiff told NBC's Chuck Todd.

Todd then pressed Schiff on why the Democrat does not just wait for the Mueller investigation to produce its findings before levying criticism on what may or may not be coming anyway.

"If we had waited to do any of our investigative work for the Mueller investigation, we would have been waiting a year and a half," Schiff responded. "We have a separate and independent and important responsibility, and that is to tell the country what happened."

President Trump tweeted praise Sunday morning for the Senate Intelligence Committee, led by Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., for releasing its summary of "no collusion."

"Senator Richard Burr, The Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, just announced that after almost two years, more than two hundred interviews, and thousands of documents, they have found NO COLLUSION BETWEEN TRUMP AND RUSSIA!" President Trump tweeted.

"Is anybody really surprised by this?"

Schiff is not just shocked, but appalled.

"When people say 'there's no collusion,' they must have a different word for the kind of corrupt coordination of effort between the Trump campaign and the Russians," Schiff maintained.
