Enough signatures were gathered to qualify independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to be on the ballots in swing states Arizona and Georgia, super PAC American Values 2024 said.
The two states helped President Joe Biden defeat former President Donald Trump in the general election in 2020 by narrow margins. A rematch in November appears likely.
Although it's considered unlikely he can win, Kennedy's appearance on the ballot in pivotal battleground states could affect the outcome.
"The grassroots energy and momentum give us more confidence than ever in our ability to knock out the remaining states on our list of states quickly," American Values 2024 co-founder Tony Lyons said in a statement on Tuesday, CNN reported.
Lyons told Just the News that the "[t]he remaining states are Michigan, South Carolina, Maryland, California, West Virginia, Indiana, Texas, Illinois, New York, and Massachusetts."
The super PAC said in December that it would spend $10-15 million to help Kennedy gather the required signatures.
Kennedy currently is on the ballot only in Utah, though his campaign has gathered enough signatures to appear on the ballots in New Hampshire and Hawaii, CNN reported.
Kennedy, son of the former U.S. senator and 1968 presidential candidate, has said he plans to appear on the ballot in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
The Democratic National Committee filed a complaint this month with the Federal Election Commission against Kennedy's campaign and American Values 2024, alleging that the campaign had received improper benefits from the super PAC's work to get his name onto state ballots.
The DNC filed its complaint after the organization said it would start funding access efforts in five more states, NBC News reported.
The DNC says that move is a "violation of federal law" as it means American Values 2024 is giving the Kennedy campaign an illegal contribution.
