Could a Secret Senate Vote Sink Trump?

While Republican senators have shown little appetite for convicting former President Donald Trump at his second impeachment trial, legal scholars say there is a little-known maneuver that could lead to a conviction. That method is a secret ballot.

A secret vote is in the realm of possibilities, but it would require a procedural rule change. If a closed ballot vote were permitted, Republican senators would be able to vote without fear of any political pushback from Trump's large army of backers.
