Law enforcement experts warn police departments looking to lower hiring standards to boost recruitment numbers to be "cautious" about what requirements they are sacrificing in their bid to increase the number of police officers on their force.

Facing a growing number of vacancies compounded with resignations and retirements, police departments nationwide have considered revising their hiring policies in order to widen the applicant pool.
