Democrats are leading in the polls for most of the closely contested states as strategists are beginning to question whether the GOP’s firewall in the Senate is strong enough to prevent a total Democratic takeover of Congress in November.
This should have been a good year for Republicans. Ten Senate Democrats are running for re-election in states Donald Trump won in 2016. Trump carried several of those 10 states – including West Virginia, North Dakota, Indiana, and Missouri -- by double-digit margins.
