Sen. Blackburn to Newsmax: Hunter Biden Charges Show 'Two Tiers of Justice'

By    |   Tuesday, 20 June 2023 06:47 PM EDT

Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., told Newsmax Tuesday that the deal President Joe Biden’s son Hunter cut with the Justice Department shows that there’s “two tiers of justice” in America today.

“It is so interesting how the DOJ has gone about this,” Blackburn said during an appearance on Newsmax’s “The Chris Salcedo Show.” “And, of course, we started to hear that they were going to bring forward some charges on Hunter Biden and you see the two tax charges where it's a slap on the wrist. Then, of course, they're saying no problem with the gun charges, no time to be served [in prison], and yet some people who are similarly situated, are currently locked up for lying on a firearms application.”

“So, what you're seeing is the two tiers of justice, two systems that are used,” she continued. “There's one for people that are politically aligned with you and then there is another for all the rest of us. It just shows you how this political cabal inside the FBI and the DOJ has decided they're going to use their positions to play politics. It is a sad day for our nation.”

The younger Biden has been charged with failure to pay federal income tax and illegal possession of a weapon, according to a letter filed in U.S. district court in Delaware.

As per the deal, which was made public Tuesday, Hunter Biden will plead guilty to misdemeanor tax offenses and is expected to reach an agreement with prosecutors on the felony charge of illegal possession of a firearm as a drug user.

Hunter Biden is seemingly the first child of a sitting president to be indicted, according to Aaron Crawford, who specializes in presidential history at the University of Tennessee.

David Weiss, U.S. attorney for the District of Delaware, countered a claim by Hunter Biden’s legal team Tuesday that the probe into the president’s son had ended.

When asked what she makes of Weiss’ use of the word “ongoing” in the announcement about the charges, Blackburn said, “Well, you've got a lot going on with Biden incorporated and the alleged bribes and the business deals that this family has allegedly taken.”

“They've spent years going through and conducting these business deals and the fact that they are not listed as foreign agents, but yet, whether it's China, whether it's the Ukraine or Russia or other countries that we may not know, what we do know from bank records is that money has been transferred from some of these entities to as many as nine different members of the Biden family,” she said. “They have made a career out of influence peddling and working off of Joe Biden's name.”
