Whitaker to Newsmax: Hunter Biden Case at 'Big Pivot Point'

By    |   Monday, 24 April 2023 11:52 AM EDT

If there is no political interference, then Hunter Biden should have charges brought against him, former acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker told Newsmax on Monday.

Whitaker's remarks came as Biden's legal team is due to meet with Department of Justice officials this week to talk about the probe against him as scrutiny intensifies.

Whitaker said on Newsmax's "Wake Up America" that these meetings are "a typical step when prosecutors give the defense team really two options: They are going to talk about settling the case and pleading to charges," with another part of the meeting being that "the defense team is going to present their version of the case and why the Feds should not bring this case."

Whitaker added: "I have seen these meetings happen often. Usually nothing comes of it, although typically it is the first time the criminal chief and possibly, the U.S. attorney, would sit down with the defense lawyers and hear what they have to say," making this "a big pivot point in this case."

Regarding the reports that U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland might be holding up the case or blocking it from even happening, Whitaker said, "It would be very surprising that Merrick Garland would be willing to step in and prevent Hunter Biden from being charged with these alleged tax fraud cases."

Whitaker said: "Every attorney general understands the position they are in that they need to make sure that regular order is followed, and the rule of law is followed."

But Whitaker emphasized, "I don't think Merrick Garland has done a very good job at that, because he has too often been inserting himself into politics."

Whitaker also said the Biden case could have a relevant impact on the small margin of voters who actually decide presidential elections in specific states, because in 2020 one of the reasons that Biden won was that "the story about Hunter Biden was suppressed by the mainstream media ... so this is the first time many voters actually understand the gravity of what Hunter Biden was doing" and the connection to his father.
