Rep. Perry to Newsmax: Hunter Needs to Be Held in Contempt

By    |   Wednesday, 10 January 2024 09:37 PM EST

Hunter Biden has gotten himself into "even more hot water" because of his actions and needs to be held in contempt, Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., said on Newsmax.

"Really, this isn't about Hunter Biden, this is about what he knows about his father's role in the influence-peddling scheme regarding his father and the family name," Perry said Wednesday during an appearance on "The Record with Greta Van Susteren."

U.S. House Republicans on Wednesday moved toward holding Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress for not testifying in their impeachment probe of his father President Joe Biden, after he set off pandemonium with an unexpected Capitol appearance.

Republican lawmakers in both the House Oversight and Judiciary committees held the votes after the younger Biden refused to appear for a closed-door deposition last month, instead saying he would testify publicly, which they rebuffed.

Hunter Biden, 53, appeared without notice on Wednesday at the House Oversight Committee's meeting on the matter, sparking arguments between lawmakers, some of whom scolded him for the surprise.

"Hunter Biden has gotten himself into even more hot water in a worse situation by his actions, but we hope to learn everything about what President Joe Biden has done selling America out for personal gain for his family, and family members, and potentially friends and what have you," Perry told Newsmax,

"That what this has always been about. Hunter Biden could have avoided dealing with Congress just by showing up."

House Republicans allege that the president and his family improperly profited from policy actions in which Biden participated when he was vice president from 2009 to 2017. The White House and Hunter Biden deny wrongdoing.

Perry said no American gets to choose if they're going to show up or what the provisions of the questioning are.

"This is a lawful subpoena, just like everybody else would have to comply with," he said.

"If you're going to be deposed, you don't get to determine the time and the place or the manner. That's for the members of Congress or the attorney general or the district attorney, any of those law enforcement agencies, to provide, not for you to dictate, and I think that they're trying to act like he's trying to comply when he's absolutely out of compliance, which is why he needs to be held in contempt."
