President Donald Trump has already expressed dissatisfaction with incoming acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney over his 2016 comment that Trump is “a terrible human being,” Axios reports.
According to Axios, Trump has complained about Mulvaney to multiple people, reportedly saying to one close adviser, “Did you know [Mulvaney] called me ‘a terrible human being’ back during the campaign?”
In mid-December, only a few days after Trump announced that Mulvaney would replace John Kelly in January, The Daily Beast uncovered a video of the then-congressman defending his support for Trump in the presidential election during a debate against his then-challenger Fran Person shortly before election day in 2016.
“Yes, I am supporting Donald Trump, but I’m doing so despite the fact that I think he’s a terrible human being,” he said at the time.
A spokesperson for Mulvaney, who is currently the director of the White House’s Office of Management and Budget, dismissed the 2016 comment as “old news,” and said that the then-congressman changed his mind about Trump after meeting him for the first time later.
