The New York Mets announced they have signed former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow to a minor league deal.
Tebow, who was a first-round pick of the Denver Broncos in 2010, will participate in the Mets instructional league, the team said.
Tebow, 29, played football at the University of Florida, winning the Heisman Trophy as a sophomore, and leading the Gators to a national championship in 2008.
Tebow held an open baseball tryout on Aug. 30 in front of scouts from 28 major league teams.
Tebow, an avowed Christian, made news over the summer when he prayed with the family of a man who was stricken with a medical emergency on a flight to Phoenix, even helping the family retrieve their luggage.
