LIGNET: Syria's Cease-fire Won't End Civil War

The fragile peace that appears to have been achieved in Syria today could easily be shattered, by opposition fighters or by large protests against the regime to be held tomorrow. President Bashar Assad has not withdrawn Syrian Army forces from cities and towns as he promised to do and it appears he’s taken a lesson from the fate that befell Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak when he began to make concessions. Both sides in Syria appear to want peace, but the civil war will not likely end until one side — either the Assad regime, or the opposition movement — is soundly defeated.
