The man who brought the world "Carrie," "Cujo" and "Mr. Mercedes" has unveiled a new villain: Rudy Giuliani.
Stephen King, whose horror-themed thrillers have sold hundreds of millions of copies, says the former New York City mayor and current personal lawyer to President Donald Trump, is partly to blame for the nation’s opioid epidemic.
In a tweet, King wrote: "Let’s not forget that Rudy Giuliani – old Mr. Truth isn’t Truth – worked for Purdue Pharma in 2002. Thanks in part to his efforts, sales of OxyContin continued, and the opioid epidemic was born. Just another rat thriving in the swamp Trump promised to drain."
Giuliani’s consulting firm, Giuliani Partners, once represented Connecticut-based Purdue during a federal probe of how the company’s marketing of the painkiller OxyContin contributed to the opioid epidemic, according to The Wrap reports.
"Giuliani was unable to stop a criminal conviction, but did manage to secure an agreement that curbed future prosecution of the pharmaceutical company," The Wrap reported.
King’s reference to "truth isn’t truth" relates to Giuliani’s defiant declaration on Sunday’s "Meet the Press" that "truth isn’t truth" and that the investigation of special counsel Robert Mueller is mulling a "version of the truth."
