Michelle Obama's West Coast fundraising trip this weekend has been cancelled due to the government shutdown,
a Democratic source told The Hill.
The first lady was due to appear in Los Angeles Friday and in San Francisco Sunday.
The Los Angeles appearance was to make up for President Barack Obama's cancellation of a September appearance at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser there because of the crisis over Syria's chemical weapons.
In San Francisco, the first lady was to headline a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fundraiser along House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, The Hill reported.
It was unclear when the events would be rescheduled.
The trip cancellation was apparently the result of temporary shutdown layoffs in the White House travel office, which coordinates all presidential-related travel, including trips taken by the first lady.
Vice President Joe Biden's planned trip to New Jersey on Friday to campaign for Senate candidate Cory Booker also was a victim of the shutdown.
