Most Americans haven't read former special counsel Robert Mueller's report, and that includes Mueller himself, presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway said Thursday but Democrats are still trying to use it to ramp up their push to impeach President Donald Trump.
"They're trying to do acrobatics to pretend this is about election protection," Conway told Fox News' Outnumbered Overtime." "They can't make up their minds...they can't get over the 2016 election. They haven't a clue how to beat him in 2020."
Conway said most Americans saw Mueller's congressional testimony as a political, not legal exercise, and she saw him "as somebody being used and abused" by members of Congress that can't move on
"When they aren't losing impeachment resolutions, by 323-95 last week, they are stirring up trouble with Bob Mueller," said Conway.
She said the hearing also called out questions about Mueller's participation in the investigation and report that bear his name.
"I think some are using Bob Mueller to imbue this investigation and the ultimate report with his credibility and legitimacy, and he wasn't having any of it yesterday," said Conway. "We were all told on this network and others, we were all led to believe that Mueller works in quiet...it turns out maybe he was working in secret because others were working secretively and furtively with him there in the front."
Conway also discussed a new Fox Poll that shows a partisan divide about whether Trump's tweets about the four Democratic "squad" congresswomen, Rep. Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez., Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib. The poll indicated 33% of Republicans felt Trump crossed the line, but Conway defended Trump, saying that Americans who swear an oath to office should love the country and not attack it.
"These four women in the so-called "Squad," they voted against humanitarian aid, the package. They are the only four to do that. That's not just frustrating, that's outrageous...they have lost complete moral authority."
