Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill., is slamming calls to impeach Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, Politico is reporting.
"Get real," he said Monday afternoon.
"We've got to get beyond this 'impeachment is the answer to every problem.' It's not realistic. If that's how we are identified in Congress, as the impeachment Congress, we run the risk that people will feel we're ignoring the issues that mean a lot to them as families."
Politico noted Democrats are already wrestling with whether to try to impeach President Donald Trump.
Those pushing for Kavanaugh's impeachment, or at least an inquiry, include Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Kamala Harris, D-Calif., as well as Reps. Ilhan Omar D-Minn., Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash.
And Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., announced she will file an impeachment resolution Tuesday.
The move comes after The New York Times published a story of a new allegation of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh. The story was based on a forthcoming book written by two reporters from the newspaper.
In the book, "The Education of Brett Kavanaugh," the woman declined to be interviewed. In addition, her friends said she did not recall the incident.
President Donald Trump has called for the resignation of all journalist at the Times involved in the Kavanaugh "smear" story.
