Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., charged Sunday that the confirmation process for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was “a sham.”

In an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Klobuchar weighed in on a New York Times report that unveiled fresh revelations about the Supreme Court justice’s alleged behavior as a student at Yale University in the 1980s.

“I think the whole thing was a sham and that those documents need to be turned over as well as the documents that the White House hid from his time in the White House counsel's office, all of that needs to come forward,” she said, adding: “You need a new attorney general that respects the law and that is just not happening with [AG William Barr].”

The Democratic presidential candidate also said she supports voluntary buyback of assault weapons, accusing President Donald Trump of “folding” to the NRA on background checks.

“I do prefer a voluntary buyback,” she said. “I think that's a smarter way to do this and I don't look at the politics of this. I look at after battling this for years and leading on this and sitting across from President Trump in the White House and watching while for nine times he told me he wanted to see universal background checks, then meeting with the NRA the next day and folding, I'm tired of this.”
