Rep. Josh Brecheen, R-Okla., believes Secret Service agents should undergo sex-neutral fitness evaluation standards.
Brecheen introduced the Secret Service Readiness Act on Monday in the wake of the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania.
"Enough with all the diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives — we need our Secret Service agents to be fully prepared and trained to do their jobs," Brecheen said.
He said a shooter getting within 150 yards of Trump can never happen again.
"Much more needs to be done in the days and weeks ahead, but hopefully this legislation is a good starting point for getting our U.S. Secret Service back in line with its mission," Brecheen said.
If passed, the Secret Service would be required to establish the new evaluation standards within 90 days and report back to Congress within 180 days on the implementation and how it's affecting recruitment and training.
