Conservatives reacted in outrage over Democrat Beto O'Rourke interrupting a press conference by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott about the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, that killed 19 children and two teachers.
O'Rourke is challenging Abbott for governor this year. He approached the stage on Wednesday and said to Abbott: "This is on you." The Associated Press reported. "You are doing nothing. You are offering us nothing."
Some on the stage yelled back at O'Rourke. Uvalde, Texas, Mayor Don McLaughlin, a Republican, called him a "sick son of a b***h."
Police officers escorted O'Rourke out of the auditorium.
Reaction to O'Rourke's stunt was swift.
Benny Johnson, host of "The Benny Report" on Newsmax tweeted: "Beto O'Rourke STORMS the STAGE at solemn press conference for school shooting victims in Texas. Parents of victims SCREAM at Beto: "Get out of here! You dumb son of a bi*ch!" Ted Cruz nearly jumps off the stage to confront him. Beto dragged out by POLICE after interrupting event."
Conservative commentator Carmine Sabia said in a tweet: "Beto O'Rourke just lost the election for Texas governor today."
Commentator Allie Beth Stuckey, host of the "Relatable" podcast, had this to say to a Twitter user, who had defended O'Rourke: "You're applauding Beto O'Rourke exploiting the murder of children for his political campaign. Consider what kind of person you have to be to approve of that."
And still another Twitter user posted: "Beto O'Rourke tries to make a political statement to the Governor of Texas and makes a complete jack ass of himself. I am sorry but it was the wrong time and wrong place to pull this stunt. BETO = JACK ASS."
