Rep. King: Boston Bombings a ‘Wake-Up Call’ on Terror
U.S. Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y.

Rep. Peter King said Tuesday the bombings in Boston demonstrate the war on terror is not over and “should serve as a wake-up call to everyone.”

“No one saw this coming,” the New York Republican who chairs a House subcommittee on counterterrorism and intelligence said on MSNBC's “Morning Joe.”

“From all indications, there was no [suspicion] that this was going to happen.”

King, who was scheduled to be briefed on the bombings later Tuesday morning with other congressional leaders, said the level of planning and coordination of the incident clearly indicates that it was a terrorist attack.

King added the joint investigations of local, federal, and state law enforcement agencies would determine whether it was carried out by Islamic fundamentalist organizations or home-grown anti-government groups. He also said there would be congressional investigations as well.

King said there was no intelligence about the bombings brought up in two top-secret briefings held by his committees last week. The challenge now, he said, would be to gather intelligence in advance to ensure there are no follow-up attacks.

“The more intel we can get upfront, the better,” he said.
