Rejecting the conspiracy theories around Jeffrey Epstein's death, civil liberties expert Alan Dershowitz said his former client "did a cost-benefit analysis and thought he'd be better off dead," the N.Y. Post's Page Six reported.

"I think he killed himself because he didn't want to spend the rest of his life in prison," Dershowitz told Page Six in an exclusive interview. "He did a cost-benefit analysis and thought he'd be better off dead."

Dershowitz said he's "not a conspiracy-theory person," adding to the Post, "I think it was just a suicide."

Dershowitz, who once defended Epstein against sex charges, called for a "thorough investigation" into Epstein's death, regardless of whether it was ruled a suicide Friday by the coroner, because there could have been some negligence on the part of the Bureau of Prisons.

"He never should have been taken off of suicide watch," Dershowitz told the Post.
