Tropical Storm Henri is the latest storm to hit land, making landfall in Rhode Island. Tens of thousands are without power and the storm’s impact was felt not only in Rhode Island but in New Jersey and New York City.
Meanwhile, Tennessee reported catastrophic flash floods this weekend. Officials say at least 22 people are dead, and dozens are still reported missing.
President Joe Biden expressed his condolences and offered support in a tweet.
“I send my deepest condolences for the sudden and tragic loss of life due to flash flooding in Tennessee,” he wrote. “We’ve reached out to the community and will offer any assistance they need in this terrible moment.”
If these storms weren’t enough, Mexico was also hit hard with Hurricane Grace, leaving at least eight dead. Grace made landfall twice, once in the Yucatan Peninsula, and again in Veracruz as a Category 3 Hurricane. Authorities say at least three people are still missing.
The National Hurricane Center is now following two disturbances, one in the Eastern part of the Atlantic Ocean and the other in the Western part of the Caribbean. So far, both have a 20% probability of forming in the next five days.
