These are sorrowful days. Two evil, mentally ill teenage boys committed separate horrific mass shootings. Everything else momentarily stops, as it should. 18-year-old Salvador Ramos killed 19 small children and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas. 18-year-old Payton Gendron shot ten shoppers in Buffalo, New York.
Postpone the culture war. Now is a time for facts. Tragedy demands this. The contentious yet often dead-on Tucker Carlson and his research terms summarized it well.
Gun control will not stop the next Payton Gendron or Salvador Ramos. Every rational person knows this. Meanwhile, Americans have much to lament.
- There are 40,000,000 Americans now on SRIs (antidepressants).
- There has been a 300% increase in SRIs since the 1990s.
- There was a 20% increase in SRIs during COVID.
- Children’s mental health issues have significantly increased.
- Suicide is up 51% during the pandemic.
- Pandemic overdoses were and are up over 20%.
- Fentanyl and all ODs are near 120,000 across our country.
- Homeless people are now involved in 20% of all crimes in Los Angeles, up from 11%.
- Social media use in children soared up to eight hours a day.
- Yet, American guns are highly restricted already, and various polls have reported that fewer Americans live in a home with guns (down from a high of 51% to 42% or lower), and — we have a gun problem?
No. We have a complex social problem — not solvable by more government.
Tucker’s points were clear, well presented, and rational.
This starkly contrasts with Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke’s emotional appeal. He politicized a tragedy by loudly interrupting the somber news conference held by his opponent, Gov. Greg Abbot.
O’Rourke’s pandering demagoguery ignores what really matters.
Life. Precious life. American life. Most importantly, the end of life for 19 lovely children and two hard-working teachers.
Mental illness and evil caused pain. Feeling pain keeps us human.
May we never forego feeling our loss profoundly. If we, as a civil society, do, all is lost.
It is the conservative way to see tragedy and grieve. We then reflect on how we can protect life while carefully preserving individual liberty.
The modern liberal progressive quickly skips through grief to angrily seeking to expand government. Their caring somehow justifies trampling on the Second Amendment.
As Democrat former Chicago Mayor and Democrat National Committee Chair Rahm Emanuel aptly stated, “You never want a serious crisis to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.”
Tyrannical nations seize guns and repress religion. They then eventually take private property by force and held their regimes in place — by murder.
Our American guns are an insurance policy, a sometimes excellent protective and occasionally tragic but necessary insurance policy — that must never be removed.
One look at the pandemic shows us how quickly our government can drastically control our lives.
Gun confiscation is not new for Democrats. California Sen. Dianne Feinstein said the 1994 Clinton semi-automatic ban did not go far enough.
Feinstein stated, “If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them — ‘Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in,’ I would have done it.”
With our U.S. government owning 4.5 million guns, our own 393 million+ citizen guns, held firmly in place by our Second Amendment, are not going away. Not only is removing our guns political suicide, but they are also already heavily restricted by over 30,000 pages of federal and state laws.
Nor is there a judiciary in place that would vote to remove them. For Democrats screaming about following the science, the science rejects the theory that gun-free zones make for safer schools or public centers.
Despite the occasional tragic act of mental illness or evil, guns work, both constitutionally and Americans know it.
When Democrats generally went soft on both crime and illegal immigration (particularly after the May 26 – June 8, 2020 George Floyd riots) and then racialized policing and our borders, Americans exercised their rights and collectively bought 40 million firearms in 2020 and 2021. Notably, Black gun ownership soared the most of any ethnicity during the pandemic.
Yet, when we slow down and grieve, the real American crisis is mental health and addiction. Then throw in a pandemic where we repressed our people and children. We separated healthy people from society due to a massive government overreach.
This power grab is consistent with the ongoing Long March of The Left on our beloved American institutions. Leftists must be reined in so America can begin to heal our youth and citizenry as a whole.
We must turn our attention post-pandemic to repairing, preserving and strengthening the mental health of our children and citizens. They remain remarkably at risk nationwide after the most significant government expansion in the history of America since The New Deal.
Big government has created significant problems for our mental health. The harmful effect on our children is undeniable.
The problem is not guns. Poorly run huge governments that have affected our people, our family systems, and our mental health is the problem. Harmed youths are simply part of this more significant problem.
Big Pharma and open borders have led to drastic increases in deadly drugs and criminals. The Biden administration’s progressive Democratic leadership problems worsened the situation.
One cold, painful reality must be accepted. Not every sick, isolated person can have their mental illness or predilection for evil stopped. That has always been true in our free American society. Some evil will always slip through.
This horrible reality does not ease any intense pain and suffering. Nevertheless, reject the real do-nothing Democrat demagogues rejecting sincere calls for prayers. Our prayers and tears for all victims must always come first.
