Rep. Peter King: Al-Qaida Recruits US Muslims

By    |   Thursday, 08 September 2011 12:45 PM EDT

Al-Qaida has shifted its focus to recruiting Muslim-Americans to do their bidding in this country, says New York Republican Rep. Peter King, chairman of the Homeland Security Committee.

Furthermore, we must be vigilant against this domestic terrorism threat, he writes in an opinion piece for The Hill.

“At least 40 Muslim-Americans from Minneapolis and other U.S. cities have been recruited by the Somalia-based terror group al Shabaab and have disappeared to fight in Somalia,” King says to cite an example.

“This radicalization within the Muslim-American community is a fact recognized by the Obama administration.

"Earlier this year, the president’s deputy national security adviser, Denis McDonough, warned, ‘al-Qaida and its adherents have increasingly turned to . . . attempting to recruit and radicalize people to terrorism here in the United States . . . for the express purpose of trying to convince Muslim-Americans to reject their country and attack their fellow Americans.”
